T-Pain accuses TMZ of encouraging Drake and Kendrick Lamar’s feud
T-Pain has played a crucial role in the sound of modern R&B and is one of the figures who popularised the use of autotune. In the 2000s, he dominated the charts with his catchy hooks and was a regular feature in the mainstream. That said, he was the precursor to Drake with his melodic love-orientated songs that straddled both hip-hop and R&B. However, in recent days, the singer has asserted that he believes TMZ encouraged the destruction of Drake by fuelling his feud with Kendrick Lamar.
During a recent live stream on Instagram, T-Pain recalled being confronted by a TMZ reporter and asserted that some comments he made about Drake were spun and taken out of context to make it sound like he was dissing Drizzy when he was, in fact, praising him.
Speaking to his followers, the ‘I’m Sprung’ vocalist explained, “There was a TMZ lady out there, and she was like ‘T-Pain, are you hype about the new Drake album?'” According to him, he replied and admitted that he was indifferent.
However, the TMZ reporter allegedly thought that was enough to spin a negative article and responded, ‘Is that a diss?! Did you just diss Drake? Can I publish this??'” T-Pain explained on the livestream that he told the reporter that he was not dissing Drake and was confused why he had even been asked about $OME $EXY $ONGS 4 U when he had nothing to do with it.
However, he then proceeded to admit he was underwhelmed, telling his fans, “I feel like he recorded a bunch of sh*t in order to keep PARTY around. You can take ten, 15 of these songs, put a verse on them bitches, PARTY, that’s our album, bro. Bro, the songs are already recorded. These are all the songs that didn’t make my previous albums.”
T-Pain continued, “Drake was probably like, ‘Go for it, bro. Put verses on these songs!’ Yeah, there’s five to seven solo Drake songs that didn’t make other albums. I’m not saying that they’re bad, but these are just songs that didn’t make albums.”
Many Drake fans have not received $OME $EXY $ONGS 4 U well. Upon its release, many noticed that the project’s aesthetic looked extremely similar to the artwork of Freddie Gibbs’ 2023 body of work $oul $old $eparately.
In fact, many accused Drake and PARTYNEXTDOOR of copying Freddie Gibbs due to the similarities between the two, from the rabbits on the covers to the triple dollar sign usage. Furthermore, Gibbs even commented on it himself and took to social media to insinuate he agreed with many of the fans who initially pointed it out. That said, Drake is probably welcoming attention to his music instead of Kendrick Lamar.
