Freddie Gibbs accuses Drake of stealing his album
On February 13th, Drake and his OVO signee PARTYNEXTDOOR unveiled the tracklist and cover art of their joint project, $ome $exy $ongs 4 U. However, many noticed that the project’s aesthetic looked extremely similar to the artwork of Freddie Gibbs’ 2023 body of work $oul $old $ separately.
There are similarities between the two, from the rabbits on the covers to the triple dollar sign usage. That said, Gibbs had some thoughts about the album, not about the music, but most definitely Drizzy’s choice of visuals. For most of his career, Gibbs has called himself “the rabbit” and used the rabbit akin to Kanye West used his bear mascot for his albums. He has also used the rabbit emoji extensively in his posts.
In the eyes of Freddie Gibbs, the similarities were more than coincidental. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Gibbs posted, “Damn, they even stole the rabbits too. I’m flattered.”
$ome $exy $ongs 4 U is a 21-track project. Still many are unsure how much it is going to sell considering the impact Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl performance may have on Drake’s career moving forward. The joint album is set to come out on February 14th, right in time for Valentine’s Day, and will be released under OVO Sound/Republic Records.
Earlier this week, Drizzy teased the album on stage during his Australia tour. In addition to the “sexy songs,” he confirmed to the audience that the project would also include party songs, stating, “I got an album coming out on February 14th with my brother PARTYNEXTDOOR.”
He added, “It’s called Some Sexy Songs 4 U, but it’s some turned-up songs for you on there, too. And there’s some personal feelings on there for you. So hopefully, whoever you’re with on Valentine’s Day, hopefully, y’all can share that experience together.”
This is not the first time PARTYNEXTDOOR and the Scorpion creator have collaborated. The pair have worked on songs like ‘Loyal’, ‘Come and See Me’, ‘Recognize’, ‘With You’, ‘Members Only’, ‘Preach’, ‘Over Here’, ‘Since Way Back’ and ‘Wednesday Night Interlude’.
