How many times has Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs been denied bail?
Sean ‘Diddy‘ Combs was arrested in September 2024, and his legal battle is ongoing following the conclusion of his sex trafficking and racketeering trial over the summer. The Bad Boy rapper was found guilty of two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution and is scheduled to be sentenced on October 3rd. Since his arrest last year, Combs has tried and failed in numerous attempts to be released from prison.
Combs is currently detained at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, the same high-profile facility that houses Luigi Mangione, the man accused of killing UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, and Sam Bankman-Fried, the founder of cryptocurrency exchange FTX.
The eight-week trial concluded with Combs being found guilty of two prostitution counts, while being acquitted of racketeering conspiracy and two counts of sex trafficking. If found guilty of all charges, he would have faced up to life in prison. Instead, he faces a maximum of 20 years behind bars, with each of his prostitution counts carrying a ten-year sentence.
Before the trial, Combs’ lawyers stated, “No matter how many lawsuits are filed, it won’t change the fact that Mr Combs has never sexually assaulted or sex trafficked anyone—man or woman, adult or minor. We live in a world where anyone can file a lawsuit for any reason. Fortunately, a fair and impartial judicial process exists to find the truth, and Mr Combs is confident he will prevail in court.”
The trial saw testimonies from Combs’ affiliates over the years, ranging from his ex-girlfriend Cassie and other anonymous partners to personal assistants and rapper Kid Cudi, who once dated the ‘Me and U’ singer and believed Combs blew up his car. Combs will be sentenced for transportation for prostitution of Cassie and others, as well as Jane and others.

Two months before his sentencing, Combs filed a bail request for $5000million, requiring him to reside at his Miami mansion. His lawyers argued, “The prosecution and continued incarceration of Sean Combs are unique in the history of the Mann Act.
“There has literally never been a case like this one, where a person and his girlfriend arranged for adult men to have consensual sexual relations with the adult long-term girlfriend as part of a demonstrated ‘swingers’ lifestyle and has been prosecuted and incarcerated under the Mann Act.”
Judge Arun Subramanian denied the rapper’s appeal on August 4th, explaining that the court must “find by clear and convincing evidence that the person is not likely to flee or pose a danger to the safety of any other person or the community if released,” but that Combs posed a risk of “flight or danger.”
Combs has been challenging the legal system since he was jailed. His latest request even included a letter from his ex-girlfriend, Virginia ‘Gina’ Huynh, named “Victim-3” in the indictment, that supported his release. This is far from the first time he’s tried to play a get-out-of-jail card. However, the judge has repeatedly shot down his attempts.
So, how many times has Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs been denied bail?
Combs has been denied bail five times. The rapper was denied bail three times before his trial began in May; on the third attempt, the judge stated, “The government has shown by clear and convincing evidence that no condition or combination of conditions will reasonably assure the safety of the community.”
Prosecutors accused Combs of attempting to tamper with witnesses and contacting third parties to sway a potential jury pool. They claimed he violated Bureau of Prisons rules by using inmates’ prison numbers to reach outside parties.
In July, following the verdict that saw him cleared of racketeering and sex trafficking charges, Combs requested bail once again. The judge denied him, citing his history of violence in his decision.
“Even if the defendant was solely required to show that he is not a danger to the community, he could not meet that burden,” he said. “Prior to trial, the court denied bail, and sees no reason to reverse that now. The defence conceded the defendant’s violence. His violence is depicted in the video of Cassie Ventura.
“The defence admitted, ‘This is a terrible moment, domestic violence is the issue,’ is what she said. It wasn’t only that. There was the London Hotel incident. There was violence after the searches in this case. As to Jane, there was June 2024 – after the searches of Combs’ residences. This evidences a disregard for the law and a propensity for violence.”
Only time will tell if Combs will try his hand at bail again. As of now, he’ll remain in Brooklyn jail for at least a couple more months.
