Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs denied $1 million bail request following verdict
Sean ‘Diddy‘ Combs has been denied bail after he was cleared of racketeering and sex trafficking charges in his criminal trial. The jury reached a verdict on June 2nd, finding him guilty of two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution.
The rapper’s defence attorney asked for Combs to be released on a $1 million bond while he awaits sentencing on October 3rd. However, Judge Arun Subramanian denied the request.
“Even if the defendant was solely required to show that he is not a danger to the community, he could not meet that burden,” the judge said. “Prior to trial, the court denied bail, and sees no reason to reverse that now. The defence conceded the defendant’s violence. His violence is depicted in the video of Cassie Ventura.
“The defence admitted, ‘This is a terrible moment, domestic violence is the issue,’ is what she said. It wasn’t only that. There was the London Hotel incident. There was violence after the searches in this case. As to Jane, there was June 2024 – after the searches of Combs’ residences. This evidences a disregard for the law and a propensity for violence.”
Cassie’s lawyers also released a statement after the decision, asking the judge to keep Combs behind bars for safety reasons.
“We write as counsel for Casandra Ventura (‘Ms Ventura’) to respectfully request that the Court deny Mr Combs to be released pending his sentencing on his two convictions under 18 U.S.C. 2421,” the statement obtained by AllHipHop reads.
“Pursuant to the Bail Reform Act, 18 U.S.C. 1343 (a)(2), detention is mandatory post-conviction on these charges, and Ms Ventura believes that Mr Combs is likely to pose a danger to the victims who testified in this case, including herself, as well as to the community.”
Combs will remain at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, where he’s been since his arrest in September.
