Young Thug trial witness fires lawyer while on the stand
The YSL trial, which has been ongoing since 2022 with Young Thug at the centre, has been full of controversy. That said, even more complications have arisen as one of the witnesses recently decided to fire his judge while taking the stand.
Kenneth Copeland, also known as Lil Woody, was held in police custody over the weekend after refusing to testify last week despite having an immunity deal agreed on the basis he gave evidence.
However, after his stint in custody, he agreed to take the stand, but as he prepared to give evidence on June 11th, he fired his lawyer, as she confirmed to the judge that she wanted to be taken off the case.
Pointing to his stand-in attorney, Miss Bumpass Copeland simply said, “She fired. I don’t want her”. However, the reason why Lil Woody fired her is because she had expressed her desire to be taken off the case but was denied.
According to Law & Crime magazine, following Brian Steel’s assertion that Judge Ural Glanville was colluding with the prosecution, there was much suspicion that Bumpass had told Thug’s lawyer about the off-the-record meeting.
After asking to be removed as counsel in the case, Glanville decided to keep Bumpass in the courtroom, as she had to be present during Copeland’s time testifying. However, after approaching the judge privately, she provided Glanville with a signed order requesting that she be allowed to withdraw from representing Copeland.
She was granted permission to withdraw from representing Copeland but was told she would have to appear in court on June 25th. Recent developments in the case have seen Young Thug’s attorney land himself in custody for contempt of court and accusations of collisions aimed at the judge overseeing the RICO trial.
