YNW Melly smiles at bond hearing ahead of double murder trial
YNW Melly was spotted smiling in court this week at a bond hearing.
The Florida rapper, best known for his song ‘Murder on My Mind’, is accused of killing two of his childhood friends, YNW Sakchaser and YNW Juvy, in October 2018.
Melly is facing a potential death penalty or life sentence after allegedly staging the crime scene to appear as a drive-by shooting.
Sakchaser and Juvy suffered gunshot wounds, with YNW Bortlen accused of driving their bodies to an emergency room.
On April 30th, Melly appeared in court with a beaming smile after requesting to be released on bond while he awaits his trial, which is scheduled for January 2027.
His lawyer, Drew Findling, who has represented NBA YoungBoy, Lil Baby, Gucci Mane, Offset, and DaBaby, recently claimed he was living in “dehumanising” conditions at Broward County Jail in Fort Lauderdale.
Melly allegedly entered solitary confinement in December 2021 on a 23 and one schedule, which means he’s alone in a cell for 23 hours a day and allowed out for just one hour.
Findling claims he hasn’t been allowed phone calls or visits for years after his visitation and phone privileges were revoked in 2022. In his request, Melly stated that his conditions can be psychologically damaging and lead to long-term physical and mental illness.
Melly has been in prison since February 2019. He went on trial in 2023, but it ended in a mistrial.
In April, his mother, Jamie Demons-King, took to social media to claim that Melly would soon be a free man, writing on her Instagram Stories, “Melly coming [home] soon.” She previously claimed that the stress of the first trial caused her to suffer a heart attack.
