YG detained by police over Drakeo The Ruler murder in Los Angeles
YG was detained this week over Drakeo The Ruler’s murder.
The 36-year-old (real name Keenon Jackson) was held by police officers at around 7am on July 23rd.
According to TMZ, a SWAT team swarmed his property in Burbank, California, as part of a search warrant.
The California Highway Patrol led the incident with the assistance of Burbank SWAT, before the Compton rapper was eventually let go.
People report that YG isn’t a suspect or a person of interest in the murder investigation. The detainment came shortly before he took on The Game in a Verzuz battle later that evening, which went ahead as planned.
YG has denied his involvement after Drakeo The Ruler was stabbed to death at the Once Upon a Time in LA festival in December 2021 in a backstage attack.
He recently addressed the incident on a song called ‘We Know the Truth’ from his new album, The Gentlemen’s Club.
YG raps, “They say I murdered this, they say I murdered that/ Well, if that was true, you’d be a fucking rat/ And I’d be in the cell sleeping on a rack/ But too bad that ain’t a fucking fact/ All that talking on the fucking app/ The streets done, it’s a fucking wrap/ They wanna see me fall, the city wack/ Same n*gga who once brought the city back.”
He continued, “I got paid 600 for that show/ So why would I tell a n*gga to fuck it up, though?/ And this a fact you should know/ Slim just died, I wasn’t worried about bro/ I came to get the dough, was finna hit the stage/ Then I heard how y’all heard, somebody got hit with a blade/ I heard n*ggas saying, ‘YG paid’/ Stop lying, n*gga, come run YG fade.”
