YG addresses Drakeo The Ruler’s Los Angeles murder on his new album
YG has addressed Drakeo The Ruler’s murder on his new album.
The Compton rapper released his new project, The Gentlemen’s Club, on June 19th, featuring a song called ‘We Know the Truth’.
On the track, he addresses rumours about his involvement in Drakeo’s death, denying the claims.
YG raps, “They say I murdered this, they say I murdered that/ Well, if that was true, you’d be a fucking rat/ And I’d be in the cell sleeping on a rack/ But too bad that ain’t a fucking fact/ All that talking on the fucking app/ The streets done, it’s a fucking wrap/ They wanna see me fall, the city wack/ Same n*gga who once brought the city back.”
He continued, “I got paid 600 for that show/ So why would I tell a n*gga to fuck it up, though?/ And this a fact you should know/ Slim just died, I wasn’t worried about bro/ I came to get the dough, was finna hit the stage/ Then I heard how y’all heard, somebody got hit with a blade/ I heard n*ggas saying, ‘YG paid’/ Stop lying, n*gga, come run YG fade.”
In the following chorus, he says, “I’m at war, I’m at war/ Motherfucker, I’m at war.” The song comes with a music video that finds YG behind bars as a news report plays, accusing him of murder.
Drakeo was stabbed to death at the Once Upon a Time in LA festival in December 2021 after being attacked backstage. YG and Drakeo were beefing before he was killed.
His line about being paid $600,000 for a show refers to him headlining the same festival where Drakeo was murdered.
The Gentlemen’s Club serves as YG’s first album in four years following I Got Issues. It consists of 15 tracks with features from Pusha T, Tyler, The Creator, JID, Ab-Soul, Shoreline Mafia and others.
