Wiz Khalifa to appeal nine-month prison sentence over weed

Wiz Khalifa was sentenced to nine months in a Romanian prison on December 18th. However, he plans to appeal the decision.

The Pittsburgh rapper was charged with illegal drug possession in October 2024 after officers allegedly found him with 18.53 grams of cannabis and “a cigarette that contained cannabis.”

According to TMZ, Wiz is currently in the process of appealing the weed-related sentence.

The court partially overturned a ruling that imposed a criminal fine of 3,000 lei (approximately £515). His arrest came in July 2024 after smoking weed on stage at Beach, Please! Festival in Costinesti.

Romania has strict cannabis laws that make it illegal for recreational and medical use, carrying potential sentences between six months and three years.

Wiz seemed unbothered when the sentencing was announced. The rapper took to X to celebrate his Khalifa Kush weed being named the top celebrity cannabis brand in sales for the second year in a row.

“Best weed in the world is Khalifa kush,” he wrote. “Thank you to everyone who grabbed some KK this year. More on the menu next year.” He also posted clips from live streams, telling his fans, “What’s your bongs name?” and “Everyone take a bong rip.”

Social media personality Andrew Tate, who was detained in Romania in 2023, wrote on X, “Romanians now trying to throw Wiz Khalifa in jail. Come see me @wizkhalifa I know how to get better blankets and pillows.”

Wiz admitted he was in the wrong after the incident took place, apologising for smoking during his performance.

“Last nights show was amazing,” he wrote. “I didn’t mean any disrespect to the country of Romania by lighting up on stage. They were very respectful and let me go. I’ll be back soon. But without a big ass joint next time.”
