Together 50 Cent and Dr Dre have truly been a dynamic duo and have always been there to support each other. In fact, Dr Dre, with his record label Aftermath, has supported both Eminem and 50 Cent throughout their careers, and the three of them proverbially owned the charts of hip hop during the 2000s.
As colleagues, label mates and most importantly friends, all three of them under the Aftermath umbrella have collaborated and grown together. 50 Cent helped Eminem when he was having his relapse, and Eminem has helped 50 Cent with his albums over the years. The same can be said for Dr Dre.
With all of this being said, it is no surprise that in 2020 the hip-hop community was both shocked and appalled when Dr Dre’s daughter (Truly), decided to publicly shame 50 Cent by “ugly” and “washed-up”. Following the incident, hip-hop fans were left asking “why?” “Why would Dre Dre’s daughter disparage the rapper (real name Curtis Jackson) in such a manner?” Well, the story is quite nuanced.
In 2020, Dre Dre (real name Andre Young) was in the process of getting divorced from his then, wife Nicole Young. However, always loyal, Jackson wanted to show he was in Dre’s corner but did so by trolling Young’s estranged wife. His social media comments did not sit well with Dr Dre’s daughter, Truly Young, who obviously was not happy with the way Jackson was talking about her mother.
50 Cent’s comments were ill-judged, to say the least. Taking to Instagram, the rapper decided to post a screenshot of a newspaper headline that read, “Dr Dre’s estranged wife Nicole Young wants $2M in monthly support”. Then followed up by posting a caption that read, “These bitches be crazy how do you even ask for 2 million a month?!”
Truly caught wind of the post, and seeing that Jackson was effectively calling her mother a bitch, she decided to write some words of her own. In response to Jackson’s post, she wrote, “Haha… Coming from an ugly, washed-up, early 2000s rapper who filed for bankruptcy and is only envious of my family’s wealth and lifestyle.” She continued, “Have fun spending the rest of your savings on steroids. F*ck you!”
Young ended up going on a full rant directed at 50 Cent, using all types of expletives and offensive words, and (really) one can’t blame her. Whether or not Jackson knew the ins and outs of Dr Dre’s marriage is one thing we don’t know. However, indirectly calling his daughter’s mother a “bitch” is slightly inconsiderate and maybe something he regrets.
