Lizzo has revealed why she namedrops Drake in her new single ‘Rumors’, which features Cardi B and has already taken the world by storm.
The latest effort is Lizzo’s first new song in two years as she prepares to release the follow up to her breakthrough album, 2019’s Cuz I Love You.
She returned in the most monumental way imaginable with ‘Rumors’, which includes a scintillating guest spot from Cardi. That’s not the end of the affiliations though and fans have been puzzled as to why Lizzo mentioned Drake in the new song.
During the song, Lizzo raps: “Last year, I thought I would losе it / Readin’ shit on the internеt / My smoothie cleanse and my diet / No, I ain’t fuck Drake yet (Ha).”
Now, she has explained why she chose to name Drake in the song. The pop star told Apple Music’s Zane Lowe: “I just thought it would be so funny to say. I have a small relationship with him. He’s very cool. I just feel like women, there’s so many times where girls’ names get dropped in songs because they’re fine.”
Meanwhile, over the weekend, Lizzo took to Instagram Live to address comments by trolls. “It’s fatphobic, it’s racist, and it’s hurtful,” she said.” What I won’t accept is y’all doing this to Black women over and over and over again, especially us big Black girls.”
Lizzo added: “When we don’t fit into the box that you want to put us in, you just unleash hatred onto us. It’s not cool. I’m doing this shit for the big Black women in the future who just want to live their lives without being scrutinized or put into boxes.”
