Watch Little Simz perform ‘Woman’ on Fallon

British rapper Little Simz has performed a brilliant live version of her single ‘Woman’ on the most recent episode of The Tonight Show, Starring Jimmy Fallon. The appearance marked her US late-night debut. For the momentous occasion, she was supported by backing vocalists and a band with the performance filmed in a small theatre space.

This follows the successful UK TV performance of the track which she gave from an atmospheric, dimly-lit hall for Later… With Jools Holland back in May.

‘Woman’ is the latest single from Little Simz’s upcoming album Sometimes I Might Be Introvert, which is scheduled for release on September 3. The R&B influenced number features Cleo Sol, and was released with the opulent music video, marking Simz’s directorial debut. The single marked a departure from its politically charged predecessor, ‘Introvert’. Simz described her sultry new single as “a soulful love letter to women around the world”.

She explained: “I love it when I see women doing their thing and looking flawless”. She continued. “I’m here for that. It’s empowering, it’s inspiring; I wanted to say thank you, and I wanted to celebrate them.”

In addition to ‘Introvert’ and ‘Woman‘, Simz has also released ‘Rollin Stone’ and ‘I Love You I Hate You’. Speaking to the Guardian back in April, Simz explained how her fourth album was written during lockdown between London and Berlin.

The Islington native explained that the album is about her difficulty in opening up on her personal life in an industry where she is expected to be an “extrovert.” Simz said: “I spent the time doing what everyone was doing really, just reflecting.”

Simz will embark on her largest UK tour to date to coincide with the album, kicking off at Birmingham’s O2 Institute on November 25. She will finish off with a hometown show at London’s O2 Academy Brixton on December 16.
