Tupac Shakur murder suspect allegedly brags about killing in prison calls
The man accused of killing Tupac Shakur allegedly bragged about the murder in prison calls.
Duane ‘Keefe D’ Davis is currently in jail after being charged with one count of murder with the use of a deadly weapon and the intent to promote, further, or assist a criminal gang.
Now, according to the New York Post, audio has surfaced of Keefe speaking about the killing in several recorded phone calls.
The trial is set to begin on August 10th, 2026, with prosecutors planning to introduce the tapes as evidence.
The alleged confessions exist despite Keefe D’s not-guilty plea to the charges against him. He claims that comments in his memoir, Compton Street Legend, television appearances, and police interviews were for “fame and fortune.”
The District Attorney’s office claims Keefe admitted to being involved in the crime in a recorded prison phone call, claiming it was his “First Amendment right” to be able to talk about 2Pac.
Keefe D allegedly talked about his involvement in the murder, sharing details about how it happened and discussing potential media projects.
His lawyer, Michael Sanft, claimed that the recordings aren’t significant while acknowledging him chasing fame.
“Here’s the thing: at the end of the day, when the state of Nevada has to rely on that kind of information to prove their case beyond reasonable doubt, they’ve got a huge problem,” he said. “And I’ve seen the state before, they’ll listen to the phone calls, but it’s sort of like, ‘Nah, we don’t care. We don’t need them.’”
He continued, “Do I agree with him writing the book and doing all these interviews? No. Keefe knows that I’m in his corner and I have a personal pride issue here because I want to win this case too and I want to do the best job for Keefe that I can.”
