The Weeknd’s HBO show 'The Idol' to star Troye Sivan

HBO has officially ordered the first series of The Weeknd’s drama programme, The Idol, which will also star Troye Sivan and TV on the Radio’s Tunde Adebimpe.

The Weeknd, born Abel Tesfaye, will star in the six-episode series as well as serve as the show’s co-creator and co-writer. Tesfaye is writing about what he knows with the programme existing inside the belly of the music industry.

It follows a self-help guru/cult leader who forges a relationship with a pop star who is on the rise.

Other names confirmed to appear in the show include Lily-Rose Depp, Melanie Liburd and Suzanna Son. Meanwhile, Amy Seimetz is in-line to direct all six episodes.

“When the multi-talented Abel’ The Weeknd’ Tesfaye, Reza Fahim and Sam Levinson brought us The Idol, it was clear their subversive, revelatory take on the cult of the music industry was unlike anything HBO had ever done before,” Francesca Orsi, Executive Vice President of HBO Programming said in a statement.

Meanwhile, Tesfaye and Post Malone recently dropped the visuals for their recent collaborative single, ‘One Right Now’. Remarkably, the new track is the first time that the two of them have ever worked together.

Furthermore, the single is expected to be the lead single from Posty’s upcoming album, his first since 2019’s Hollywood Bleeding. The new release is anticipated to drop early next year, and ‘One Right Now’ has now got pulses racing for it.
