The rappers Young Thug said have “everything”

It is always contentious when rappers list their favourite MCs, as it is subjective. However, people were extremely interested when, in 2021, during an appearance on Gillie Da Kid and Wallo’s Million Dollaz Worth of Game podcast, Young Thug shared his five favourite rappers alive.

The rapper, who is currently facing a lengthy RICO trial, revealed who his five favourite rappers of all time are and insisted that his list is not based purely on lyricism but is about far more than just the substance of the music.

Listing his five personal favourites, Thug told Gillie Da Kid and Wallo, “I don’t use us as a group. [But] we really one. So I gotta say YSL one, Lil Baby, [Lil] Uzi [Vert], Drizzy…and…” Following the first four names, the Atlanta emcee admitted that he was slightly conflicted as to who he wanted as his number five.

He named both Future and 21 Savage but couldn’t settle with either. Explaining that his picks needed to have every element of rapping perfected, Thug stated, “It’s about everything. Everybody who I named got everything.”

In a slightly demeaning manner, he stated that if it was only about lyricism, he would have named Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole, or Dreamville Records’ Bas. As he tried to name an artist he truly believed should be on his list, he admitted, “I’m overly thinking.”

Fortunately, he finally settled with a legend, professing, “Kanye. Fifth one gotta be Kanye!” The Atlanta rapper had collaborated with every rhymer on his list except Kanye. Thug and Uzi collaborated on the track ‘Up,’ which appeared on the 2018 Hear No Evil EP.

Drake Future and Young Thug collaborated on the song ‘D4L’, which was released in 2020 on Drizzy’s Dark Lane Demo Tapes surprise mixtape. The Toronto star also contributed a verse to the song “Solid” from 2021’s YSL compilation album, Slime Language 2.

Although Thug didn’t have a song with Kanye, in 2021 and had a mere track named after the Chicago rhymer featuring Wyclef Jean on his mixtape Jeffrey. Earlier this year, it was revealed that Young Thug was to appear on West and Ty Dolla $ign’s Vultures 2 on the track ‘RIVER’.

In 2022, Young Thug was arrested and charged with Racketeering and operating a criminal organisation. He has been in police custody and denied bail since 2022, and his lengthy court hearings have been delayed and stopped due to prison stabbings, debacles with the judges and more.

Some of the above led to two judges having to recuse themselves from the case, and, for the moment, it seems as if the YSL founder’s career is on pause.
