Young Thug’s RICO trial labelled a “dumpster fire”

Young Thug’s RICO trial has been ongoing since 2022 and has experienced numerous delays and setbacks. From prison stabbings to alleged misconduct by the presiding judge, it has truly been a disaster. As such, it has been labelled a “dumpster fire”.

Following an off-the-record meeting with one of the witnesses willing to testify against Thug, the Atlanta emcee and his attorney, Brian Steel, insisted that the judge, Ural D. Glanville, was in contempt of court and are attempting to get Glanville to recuse.

As a result of the above, combined with the prison stabbings and arrest of attorneys has led to the former chair of Georgia’s Judicial Qualifications Committee, Lester Tate, called the entire process a “dumpster fire”.

Tate has blasted the court for putting the drawn-out case on hold until a verdict has been reached concerning Judge Glanville’s potential recusal. Another judge accused of contempt of court, Rachel Krause, has refused to recuse herself even though the Thug’s attorney had highlighted a $2,000 donation by Glanville to her re-election campaign.

After the decision to halt proceedings, Krause released a statement reading, “The only consideration for the Court is whether Judge Glanville’s campaign donation to this Court’s re-election campaign warrants recusal. The Georgia Supreme Court has held that the mere fact of a campaign contribution to a judge -– even from a party to the case -– does not warrant recusal where the contribution was not exceptionally large.”

It continued, “This Court does not relish [this] task, but it is as much the duty of a judge not to grant the motion to recuse when the motion is legally insufficient as it is to recuse when the motion is meritorious.”

However, in an interview with the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, legal commentator Lester Tate expressed his disbelief that Krause was being allowed to remain on the case despite the evident financial links between her and Glanville, telling the publication, “Given the dumpster fire the YSL trial has become, I’m really shocked she has not recused herself! Even if the letter of the law allows it to benefit the judiciary and protect its image to the public, the better practice would be for her to voluntarily recuse.”
