The rapper Travis Scott called “My drug”

Travis Scott is one of the most exciting MCs of modern times. With levels of creativity that beggar believed, following the 2021 Astroworld tragedy, the Texas lyricist took a hiatus to regather himself. However, his re-emergence on the scene in late 2022 was to the surprise and excitement of many.

Last summer, Scott confirmed the release of Utopia with a short film that will accompany the album. He also announced a tour that would commence with a performance at the Great Pyramids of Giza in Egypt.

The rollout of Utopia was brief, and Scott showcased only one single, ‘K-POP’, which featured The Weeknd and Bad Bunny. However, there were high anticipation levels after Scott was pictured in cities such as London and Rome with a briefcase containing the mastered version of the project.

Since the release of Utopia, Scott has performed with artists across the US and even found himself in the centre of the Kendrick Lamar and Drake beef after he performed ‘Like That’ alongside Future and Metro Boomin’ at Rolling Loud California.

Following this, during a tour pitstop at Penn State University Park, Drake pulled out a prop of the Astroworld head featured on Scott’s 2018 album cover and, with a sniper scope, unloaded fake gunfire on the emcee’s head as it burst into flames.

Over the years, Scott has worked with several different artists, including Drake himself, for the Diamond-certified single ‘SICKO MODE’. However, in 2016, for his sophomore project, Birds In The Trap Sing McKnight, the Houston icon worked with musicians such as André 3000, Blac Youngsta, Bryson Tiller and Young Thug.

However, there was one artist that Scott linked up with for a club anthem. Kid Cudi. In an interview with Complex magazine about his collaboration with the Man On The Moon creator, Scott praised Cudi.

Speaking about how much he listened to Cusi before fame, Scott told the magazine, “Kid Cudi was my guy. If I had no weed, he was my drug.” On their track, ‘Through The Late Night’, the Utopia emcee paid homage to Cudi by interpolating Cudi’s breakout single ‘Day ‘n’ Nite’ at the beginning of the second verse, rhyming, “Day ‘n’ Nite, I toss and turn / I keep stress in my mind, mind / I seek the peace, sometimes I can’t restrain.”
