The moment Jamie Foxx and LL Cool J came to blows on a movie set
Jamie Foxx is a master of all trades and is most definitely seen as an all-around nice guy. Foxx has been present in hip-hop, R&B and the world of Hollywood since the turn of the millennium, and although he is not as musically prolific now, he still has a great deal of respect within the industry.
The singer, rapper and actor made his first breakthrough as an actor after appearing in the legendary sketch show In Living Color, a beloved show in black America. However, he then went on to bigger and better things in television and, eventually, music.
Although he had a career before the 2000s, he is most known for his collaborations with Kanye West, specifically for his contributions to the groundbreaking track ‘Slow Jamz’ from The College Dropout. He also appeared on the 2005 hit ‘Gold Digger’.
Still, he came to fame as an actor, and in 2000, he was cast in the film Any Given Sunday. In retrospect, the cast was star-studded and featured the likes of Al Pacino, Dennis Quaid, Cameron Diaz, and legendary Bigger & Defer rapper LL Cool J. However, the latter and Jamie Foxx had some friction while on set, which ended in a physical fight between Foxx and LL. The two stars are on good terms today, but Jamie Foxx has relived the experience multiple times and now laughs about it.
That said, the fight was a ghastly show, and Jamie Foxx has described it vividly in various interviews. During an appearance on The Howard Stern Show, the Unpredictable creator relived the brawl frame by frame. When asked if he got into a “fist-fight” with LL, Jamie Foxx lightheartedly admitted, “We did, man, we did.” Jamie Foxx is the least likely person the public could imagine in a scrap. However, the thought of it is unbelievably enthralling.
Detailing the fight, he explained, “It was so crazy! We’ve mended the fences now but everybody was so f*cking crazy on that movie. There was a fight every day.” According to Foxx, LL was very aggressive on the field. In fact, Foxx ended up taking a lot of the aggression personally.
Reflecting on the filming experience, Fizz explained to Stern, “I think [the director] revved it up because I think it was what we needed at that time. I was a huge fan of LL Cool J, and [the director] kept saying, ‘That’s going to hurt you in my f*cking film.'”
Foxx admitted that he didn’t think LL Cool J would tackle him as hard as he did, and after a while, he got fed up. Looking back at what occurred on the set of Any Given Sunday, Foxx told Stern, “It Got kinda crazy! We was clocking each other. I had a helmet on, but he’s a big motherfucker.”
The ‘Slow Jamz’ singer admitted that they have a video of it which will never see the light of day, but laughed about it. Actor and comedian Bill Bellamy was also on the cast. As such, he was asked about the iconic fight by DJ Vlad during an appearance on Vlad TV.
Recalling the event, a relieved Bellamy stated, “Thank god we didn’t have the internet because it was a real f*cking fisticuff. It didn’t last long, though!” When he was asked who had won, he immediately revealed that LL Cool J definitely beat Jamie Foxx.
Although the two artists repaired their relationship a long time ago, they have never collaborated on a song to this day. Still, it is probably not due to their 2000 movie set fight.
