Jamie Foxx speaks out after physical altercation at his birthday dinner

Jamie Foxx was involved in a physical altercation at his birthday dinner on December 13th, just days after the release of his What Had Happened Was… Netflix special. The singer/actor was at Mr. Chow when a fight reportedly broke out in the high-end Beverly Hills restaurant.

Police were called to the restaurant at around 10pm after receiving reports of a fight inside the building. By the time officers arrived at the scene, Foxx had already left. An assault report was taken with Foxx’s name listed as one of the people involved.

According to The Guardian, the Beverly Hills Police Department received a call about a “possible assault with a deadly weapon.” Officers determined the report was “unfounded” and the incident involved a “physical altercation between parties.”

Foxx’s publicist released a statement following the incident, claiming a glass was thrown at him and that he required stitches around the mouth. “Jamie Foxx was at his birthday dinner when someone from another table threw a glass that hit him in the mouth,” the statement said. “He had to get stitches and is recovering. The police were called and the matter is now in law enforcement’s hands.”

A witness told TMZ that customers at a nearby table were rude and vulgar to Foxx. When he allegedly asked them to stop due to being with his family, the source said someone threw a glass that hit him in the face.

Foxx was apparently having dinner at Mr. Chow with his ex-partner Kristin Grannis and daughters Corinne and Anelise, celebrating his 57th birthday that same day. Over the weekend, Foxx took to Instagram to speak out about the events that unfolded that night, stating, “The devil is busy… but I’m too blessed to be stressed,” alongside a longer message that thanked people for their prayers.

“The devil is a lie,” he began. “Can’t win here… thank you to everybody that pray and check on me… when your light is shining bright… they try to bring you darkness … but they don’t know that you’re built for it… the lights have been shining bright.”

He added, “And huge thank yous to everyone that have watched and been inspired by ‘What Had Happened Was’ … number 1 on @netflix if you haven’t checked it out please go check it out it’s from my heart and my soul.”

Foxx was hospitalised in April 2023 due to an unspecified medical emergency. During his new Netflix comedy special, he revealed that a stroke led to his health issues after previously claiming he went to “hell and back.”
