Takeoff’s parents fighting over wrongful death money after Houston shooting
Takeoff died in November 2022, and his parents are reportedly fighting over money from a wrongful death lawsuit.
The Migos rapper lost his life in a shooting that took place at 810 Billiards and Bowling in Houston, Texas, nearly four years ago.
According to TMZ, his parents are arguing over how to split settlement money following his death, with his mother claiming his father was “barely present” in their son’s life.
His mother, Titania Davenport, filed the wrongful death suit in Texas. In documents, she claims they had a “close, loving, and nurturing relationship” throughout his whole life, having cared for and raised him as a single mother.
She says she financially supported him mostly on her own until he was an adult. Takeoff allegedly returned the favour, with his mother claiming he provided her with financial support and paid “most if not all of her expenses.”
Titania claims her son bought her a home, cars, and paid for all her clothes, food, living expenses, and utilities, while it was a different story with his father, Kenneth Ball.
She claims he provided “negligible financial support and effectively no emotional support to his son” and that Takeoff sent nothing the other way.
However, Kenneth believes he’s entitled to half of the settlement money despite his absence in Takeoff’s life.
36-year-old Patrick Clark is accused of killing Takeoff, with the trial scheduled to begin on November 9th. His defence team includes Kent Schaffer, who has worked with the likes of Travis Scott, Scarface, Pimp C, and Slim Thug.
Takeoff was 28 at the time of his death, releasing his final album, Only Built for Infinity Links, a collaborative project with Quavo, just 25 days before he died.
