Man accused of killing Takeoff hires high-profile defence team
The Takeoff murder suspect has brought in a new legal team ahead of his trial later this year.
36-year-old Patrick Clark is accused of killing the Migos rapper at 810 Billiards and Bowling in Houston in 2022.
According to Click 2 Houston, Clark has hired a high-profile defence team in Kent Schaffer, Dan Cogdell, and Anthony Osso.
Schaffer has previously worked with rappers such as Travis Scott, Scarface, Pimp C, and Slim Thug, as well as Rap-A-Lot Records founder J Prince.
Clark was previously represented by Letitia Quinones-Hollins. Carl Moore has also filed a motion to withdraw, informing the judge that he has retained new counsel.
Last month, it was announced that the murder trial would begin on November 9th, 2025, following jury selection on November 5th. The change of his defence team is not expected to delay the start of the case.
Takeoff died on November 1st, 2022, at the age of 28. A shooting incident took place at a private party, hosted by J Prince Jr, the son of J Prince, in the 1200 block of San Jacinto.
Police officers claim that an argument occurred during or after a game of dice, which Quavo was involved in. Quavo allegedly walked away moments before shots were fired, and Takeoff was murdered.
Prosecutors believe Clark pointed and fired a gun at a group of people, alleging his fingerprints were found on a bottle of wine. Clark has denied firing the fatal bullets.
Takeoff released four albums with Migos: Yung Rich Nation, Culture, Culture II, and Culture III, before the group disbanded. He dropped one solo album, The Last Rocket, in 2018, as well as Only Built for Infinity Links with Quavo as Unc and Phew, in 2022.
