Snoop Dogg reveals Tupac Shakur as playable character in SEGA game

Tupac Shakur has been cast in an upcoming SEGA game.

The late rapper will play the role of Amaru, which is his middle name, in Stranger Than Heaven, developed by Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio. It’s set to be released on the PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S on January 15th, 2027.

Snoop Dogg announced the news at Summer Game Fest 2026 alongside a cast reveal trailer.

Speaking on stage, Snoop said, “The Tupac estate and my son and myself, we work very closely together. So it just made sense to put him in this game, because his likeness and his spirit still lives on, I just felt like it was so connected to what we’re doing.”

Snoop will also star in Stranger Than Heaven. Following news of Tupac’s role, SEGA released a statement about partnering with his estate.

“Tupac’s portrayal of the character Amaru in Stranger Than Heaven is made possible with the permission and ongoing supervision of his estate, Amaru Entertainment,” SEGA wrote.

They continued, “RGG Studio is treating this integration with the utmost respect for his legacy, crafting every aspect in close collaboration and without the use of AI, including his character design based on archival footage and photographs. More details regarding his role will be shared at a later date.”

Snoop’s son, Cordell Broadus, also appears in the game alongside singers Tori Kelly, Satoshi Fujihara, and Ado.

The action-adventure game is a prequel to the Like a Dragon series, and follows the life of a Japanese-American man over the course of 50 years.

Other cast members include Yu Shirota, Dean Fujioka, Moeka Hoshi, Akio Otsuka, Tokuma Nishioka, Takashi Ukaji, and Bunta Sugawara.
