Snoop Dogg files motion to be removed from Drakeo the Ruler death lawsuit
Snoop Dogg has claimed that his company isn’t liable in Drakeo the Ruler’s death lawsuit.
The 28-year-old rapper (real name Darrell Caldwell Jr) was stabbed to death at the Once Upon a Time in LA festival in December 2021 after being attacked backstage.
Following his death, his family filed negligence lawsuits, claiming various companies were to blame for insufficient security.
In lawsuits against Live Nation and C3 Presents, they named Snoop’s SDLLC company due to their alleged role in organising and promoting the festival.
In motions filed on May 19th, Snoop, the controlling member of the company, claimed that his company “had no role in management of the festival” and “did not supervise security personnel.”
According to Billboard, his attorneys allege that Snoop’s only written contract with the festival was a $500,000 performance agreement for a one-hour set, which “does not require the artist to control the premises or manage the event.”
Drakeo is best known for his 2021 song ‘Talk to Me’, a Drake collaboration that appeared on his debut album, The Truth Hurts.
The rapper was stabbed in the neck while being assaulted by a group of men wearing red. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
In 2022, his family’s lawyer said, “Mr Caldwell was essentially lynched by over 40 to 60 people, and as you also saw, Mr Caldwell had no security. That video ran for a full minute and you didn’t see one security officer there. The video you saw was one of the last few moments of Darrell Caldwell’s life.”
He continued, “It should have never have happened. The concert, Once Upon a Time in Los Angeles, had 50 of the most iconic music artists in the industry, but … you also knew there could be an element of danger. You had Bloods. You had Crips and affiliations amongst them. We all know those groups don’t go together.”
