Snoop Dogg and Eminem to perform metaverse-style show at MTV VMAs

Snoop Dogg and Eminem will take to the stage together once more on Sunday to perform their recent collaboration track ‘From The D 2 The LBC’ for the MTV Music Video Awards.

The duo’s upcoming performance is set to be partnered by Yuga Labs, known for its hand in the NFT and cryptocurrency markets and for its Bored Apes project. The show will be influenced by “the world of the Otherside metaverse”.

Otherside is an online video game – although it has not yet been launched publicly, nor given a release date – and is said to be “a gamified, interoperable metaverse [that] blends mechanics from massively multiplayer online role playing games (MMORPGs) and web3-enabled virtual worlds”.

The game will reportedly be linked to a new cryptocurrency by the name of ApeCoin and will focus largely on NFTs. However, Snoop Dogg and Eminem’s performance will take place in real life, in New Jersey at the Prudential Center, so the links to Otherside will supposedly be completely aesthetic.

This will be Snoop and Em’s third performance together of the year. They performed at the Super Bowl half-time show, along with Dr. Dre, Kendrick Lamar, Mary J. Blige, 50 Cent and Anderson .Paak. Then in June, the duo played again at ApeFest in New York.

After the release of ‘From The D 2 The LBC’, Snoop claimed that Eminem pushed him to his rapping limits. He said, “You challenge me, Marshall. You put me back in my karate school days, where I used to be a young MC and, you know, loved the challenge of having to try new styles and new cadences.”

He added, “The rap game is supposed to be challenging; it’s supposed to make you dig in your bag ‘cause I’ve heard you on other songs with other rappers, and you tend to show out, so I wanted to make sure I was going to represent.”
