The history behind the 50 Cent and Floyd Mayweather beef

Many know about the feud between 50 Cent and Floyd Mayweather. Why? Because it’s always in the news. Whether that’s because 50 Cent said something on Twitter or Mayweather said something in an interview, the boxer and the rapper have been throwing jabs at each other consistently for the best part of 10 years. But not many know how the feud actually started. In this article, we’re going to tell you what you need to know about the history behind their beef.

One thing that many don’t know is that 50 Cent and Mayweather used to be close friends. In fact, the two used to hang out regularly, hitting the clubs and living it up together. 50 Cent even once considered Mayweather to be his brother. In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, the rapper explained their relationship was always up then down, detailing, “we’ll fall out, we’ll have an attitude, or go after each other one day and the next day he’ll call, and we’ll talk to each other…we’re gonna always be friends.”

But, the pair had a falling out in 2012, which is said to be the source of the beef. The falling out occurred around the same time that Mayweather had to do some jail time and was apparently stirred up by a man named Tommy Summers. In an interview with Complex, Mayweather detailed how, while he was incarcerated, Tommy Summers and the rapper launched the boxing promotion company TMT (The Money Team) Promotions brand behind his back and attempted to coercively employ Mayweather’s advisor and manager at the time, Al Hayman.

From there, things began to spiral out of control. TMT Promotions was a brand that Mayweather planned to launch with Summers, so Mayweather considered it shady for the rapper to launch the company without him and simultaneously try to snatch his longtime advisor and manager while he was in jail.

However, 50 Cent claims that Mayweather told him to look after the business while he was gone and claims that by launching it, investing in it and keeping it growing, that’s what he did. But the rapper wanted to be reimbursed all the money he spent on behalf of Mayweather. However, Mayweather said it was supposed to be a joint venture, so there was no need for that.

It’s messy, and for years, they would continue to accuse each other of shady deals and theft. Until 50 Cent recently put it to bed when he took to Instagram to praise Mayweather by posting a photo of the boxer with a stamp in the upper left corner reading “Confirmed Tycoon”.

As the saying goes “there’s three sides to every story”, so fans will never know the truth, but what we do know is that the origin is a deal gone horribly wrong. You can watch a video of Floyd Mayweather speaking on their beef below.
