Snoop Dogg discusses his daughter’s unexpected stroke
Long Beach legend Snoop Dogg recently opened up about his daughter Chocc (Cori Broadus), who, earlier this year, suffered an awful stroke.
The star’s daughter, aged 24 at the time, recently did a joint interview for Us Weekly in preparation for the premiere of the new docuseries Snoop Dogg’s Fatherhood: Cori and Wayne’s Story, during which the emcee admitted he struggled after hearing his daughter had had a stroke.
Opening up about the difficulties, Snoop told the publication, “It’s hard for me to revisit that day. Anyone who knows me knows my daughter is my kryptonite.” The stroke suffered by Chocc was unexpected, and she had some issues with her coordination for a short while afterwards.
Speaking about the unforeseen nature of the stroke, Chocc told Us Weekly, “I was celebrating at a party, and then the next day, I’m in the hospital. I think it really scared everyone. You know, a stroke is no joke. It brought me and my family closer, [realising] that anything can happen in a snap of a finger.”
Chocc explained that she wasn’t even aware she was suffering from a stroke and was utterly bewildered, revealing, “I didn’t even know I was having a stroke when I was having it because it’s not really talked about, and I never thought I could have one.”
Snoop added that his daughter is very open but has also suffered from mental health, telling the interviewer, “Cori is very open in showing her truth, whether it’s talking about her struggles with mental health or her stroke.” Chocc previously attempted suicide in 2021 after struggling with depression. He continued, “Most people wouldn’t feel comfortable sharing their experiences, but she wants to help people by showing that they are not alone.”
Snoop’s daughter has also started a music career and recently released an EP, Journals To Johnny. Speaking about her happiness in sharing her struggles, Chocc explained, “Life be lifin’ and – one thing about me – I’ve always been an open book. I’ve always shared with the world what I’m going through – whether it’s a good day or a bad day, a good month or a bad month – I show it off.”
Concerning music, she said that she knew that “when you’re a celebrity’s kid, people have certain expectations,” but she “finally got to put out music that feels true to who she is” on her Journals to Johnny EP.
In other news, Snoop Dogg recently declared himself as an unlikely candidate to step in to host MasterChef, if Gregg Wallace does not return over allegations of misconduct. Snoop has now thrown his hat into the ring to replace Wallace, telling The Mirror: “You better believe Snoop could be the new MasterChef judge”.
The rap legend even referenced his friendship with TV chef Gordon Ramsay as further proof of his credentials for the role, stating, “My boy Gordon [Ramsay] judges on the US version of the show, and I know he would back me to be able to judge on the UK version.”
