Universal Pictures announces release date for Snoop Dogg biopic
A release date has been announced for the upcoming Snoop Dogg biopic.
The film based on Snoop’s life was initially announced in November 2022, but now a date has finally been locked in.
According to Deadline, the movie, titled Snoop, is set to be released in cinemas on August 6th, 2027.
Directed by Craig Brewer, behind Song Sung Blue and Hustle and Flow, the film will be released through Universal Pictures. Snoop is a producer alongside Brian Grazer and Death Row Pictures president Sara Ramaker.
Jonathan Daviss, who is best known for starring in the Netflix series Outer Banks, will play the role of Snoop.
The movie will portray Snoop’s journey from adolescence to adulthood, covering his career and personal relationships.
Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, Snoop once said about the casting, “Jonathan is the whole thing, man. He’s a dynamic actor, he’s a great spirit, and he’s a learner. He’s able to take things and make it better.”
He continued, “Just to have him around me and see how he engulfs the spirit of, and how my family gravitates to him, it’s just a beautiful thing to be able to find somebody that can actually do justice to you while you’re still here and able to see it.”
Daviss told Billboard, “It was crazy, I was auditioning for that role for months. It was a stringent process, you know? Dogg wanted to put me through my paces and make sure that I was the right person for this. I was relieved, I was excited, just ready to go.
“Once he met me, he kinda just took me under his wing and I spent some time with so I could a better idea of who he was as a person so I could play him as well as I could. It was just a great process, we gon’ keep working on it.”
