Snoop Dogg announces actor for his upcoming biopic

Snoop Dogg has announced that Jonathan Daviss will play him in a new biopic. Craig Brewer, who previously directed Hustle & Flow and Coming 2 America, will direct the film for Universal Pictures.

Snoop will produce the untitled movie alongside Brian Grazer and Death Row Pictures president Sara Ramaker. The film will portray Snoop’s evolution from adolescence to adulthood, detailing his career and personal relationships.

Daviss is best known for his role in the action-adventure Netflix series Outer Banks. The show was announced for a fifth and final season in November. In 2022, he starred in Do Revenge alongside Sophie Turner, Maya Hawke and Austin Abrams.

The 25-year-old opened up about securing the Snoop role with Billboard on the 2025 BET Awards red carpet on June 9th.

“It was crazy, I was auditioning for that role for months,” he said. “It was a stringent process, you know? Dogg wanted to put me through my paces and make sure that I was the right person for this. I was relieved, I was excited, just ready to go.

“Once he met me, he kinda just took me under his wing and I spent some time with so I could a better idea of who he was as a person so I could play him as well as I could. It was just a great process, we gon’ keep working on it.”

Snoop was also full of praise for Daviss. Speaking to Entertainment Tonight at the same awards show, he said, “Jonathan is the whole thing, man. He’s a dynamic actor, he’s a great spirit, and he’s a learner. He’s able to take things and make it better.

“Just to have him around me and see how he ungulfs the spirit of, and how my family gravitates to him, it’s just a beautiful thing to be able to find somebody that can actually do justice to you while you still here and able to see it.”
