Sexyy Red says she’s “appalled” in letter to Tennessee judge about Tay Keith lawsuit
Sexyy Red wrote a letter about Tay Keith to a Tennessee judge just days before his death.
The Memphis producer died in his Nashville apartment last month at the age of 29. At the time of his death, he was in the process of suing Red’s label.
Keith, who collaborated with Red on songs like ‘Pound Town’, ‘SkeeYee’, ‘Get It Sexyy, ‘U My Everything’, and ‘Hang wit a Bad Bitch’, alleged unpaid music royalties in his lawsuit.
According to TMZ, Red wrote a letter disputing the claims after being named a defendant in the legal move.
Asking to be removed from the lawsuit, she wrote, “I am appalled and furthermore hurt by the allegations made. Tay Keith and I are great working partners and even greater friends. If the label owes him money, I’m sure they have started the process to get him paid.”
She continued, “There are several songs that Tay Keith and I have worked on together that I haven’t received payment for yet. It’s just a process the label uses in making payments after all the monies are recouped.”
Keith claimed he worked with Red on 13 songs in 2024, but didn’t receive any payment for his work.
Her label’s attorney, Dameka Davis, said, “Royalty negotiations are handled by labels – not artists – and I’ve worked closely with the legal counsel and team for Tay Keith to finalise the royalty agreement to fully compensate him for his valuable contributions as a musical collaborator with Sexyy.”
Keith’s representative also clarified that Red isn’t the target of the lawsuit. “The dispute is between the parties’ respective labels, and naming Sexyy Red in the lawsuit was a legal formality,” they said. “Any allegations are directed at the label, not Red personally.”
