Memphis producer Tay Keith found dead at 29

Hip-hop producer Tay Keith has died at the age of 29.

The musician (real name Brytavious Chambers) is known for producing hit songs for artists such as Drake and Travis Scott.

His death was confirmed on June 18th by the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department.

In a statement, they wrote, “No foul play is suspected in the death of Brytavious Chambers, 29, also known as Grammy nominated record producer Tay Keith. He was found dead in his Martin St apt this afternoon by officers performing a welfare check. His death is unclassified pending autopsy results.”

Some of Keith’s biggest songs include Scott’s ‘Sicko Mode’ and Drake’s ‘Nonstop’, as well as BlocBoy JB’s ‘Look Alive’, Eminem’s ‘Not Alike’, and DJ Khaled’s ‘Wish Wish’. He also worked with J Cole, 21 Savage, Lil Baby, Lil Nas X, and many others.

BlocBoy was one of the first people to confirm his death. Taking to his Instagram Stories, he wrote, “Damn Cuz You Just Hurt Me Bad.”

Longtime collaborator Hitkidd also said, “I ain’t even got the words, we been doing this since 2010 @taykeith.”

During a 2022 interview with Rolling Stone, Keith went into detail about how much he was inspired by Memphis.

“I was born into this shit and raised in this shit,” he said. “Memphis music is all I listened to and all my family listened to. My stepfather who I am still close with really influenced my taste for music.”

He continued, “So a lot of the shit he was listening to was a lot of Memphis artists. During that time it was like Playa Fly, 8Ball & MJ, and you know it’s subconsciously stuck with me. The Three 6 and all that shit, like that sound.”
