Drake makes surprise new appearance on Sexyy Red’s new mixtape
Canadian rapper Drake has made a surprise appearance on Sexyy Red’s new mixtape following his recent diss-track feud with Compton rival Kendrick Lamar.
Sexyy Red’s 14-song mixtape, In Sexyy We Trust, features a collaboration with Drake, Lil Baby, and Vonoff1700. Drake appears on the song ‘U My Everything’, in which he raps over ‘BBL Drizzy’, the recently released diss track that fuelled rumours about Drake’s surgery.
This was suggested in Drake’s segment, which saw the rapper deliver the lines: “Me and the surgeon got history / I changed a lot of girls’ lives for real / They need a new body, they hittin’ me, ayy / BBL Drizzy, they want a new body, they ask me for it / The last one, Jung, he did it for free ’cause I sent over so many past ones for him.”
The rapper’s surprise appearance follows a controversial feud with fellow contemporary Lamar, in which each released a series of diss tracks aimed at one another, setting a ruthless fire ablaze across the entire hip-hop world.
Many influential figures spoke out against their personal battle, with some arguments rooted in the various alternative worldly issues that hip-hop could be using its momentous power against. Macklemore, for instance, made a notable comeback with the pro-Palestine song ‘Hind’s Hall’, which saw him criticising the Drake and Kendrick “beef” with the line: “I want a ceasefire, fuck a response from Drake.”
Philadelphia rapper and former member of The Roots collective Questlove also claimed that “hip-hop is truly dead” off the back of the rappers’ qualms, while at the same time commenting on the irreparable damage such decisions have on the industry at large.
“Nobody won the war. This wasn’t about skill,” he wrote on social media. “This was a wrestling match level mudslinging and takedown by any means necessary — women & children (& actual facts) be damned,” he continued. The “Women & Children” part of the post highlights how Drake and Lamar brought family and children into the argument in a very personal and offensive way.
For now, the battle seems to have cooled down, with many claiming Lamar to have “won”. However, that’s not to say that others, like Azealia Banks, sit firmly on Drake’s side as the next move remains to be seen.
