Sexual assault lawsuit against Charlamagne Tha God dismissed by judge

The radio host Charlamagne Tha God has won a legal battle that was brought against him in 2022 by Jessica Nicole Reid. The case pertained to an alleged sexual assault and battery that Reid alleged happened in 2001 at her party.

Reid claimed that The Breakfast Club presenter spiked her drink as she began to feel dizzy after drinking something the radio personality gave her. The case continued to detail a scenario where she was taken upstairs by friends but was assaulted when Charlamagne entered the room.

The lawyers who drafted the lawsuit wrote that “Charlamagne was having sex with Ms. Reid, and she could not do anything about it.”

Furthermore, the plaintiff’s legal team claimed that Charlamagne was talking on the radio about the case, stating, “Every time Ms Reid turns on the radio and hears his voice,” continuing, “She sees him on TV, and walks past his books in the stores, she is reminded of what Charlamagne did to her.”

However, despite the allegations made in the lawsuit, a judge has dismissed the entire case. When the lawsuit was filed in 2022, Charlamagne’s lawyer, Michael Weinstein, disputed these allegations outright, insisting that droves of witnesses knew that he left the party hours before this alleged assault took place.

Reid attempted to bring a case against the radio host in 2003, two years after the alleged incident. However, Charlamagne voluntarily submitted DNA to South Carolina authorities, and it didn’t match Reid’s rape kit.

As such, the charges were dropped. When Reid attempted to reopen the case in South Carolina in 2018, the attorney general refused. The lawsuit that has been dismissed most recently was filed in New York. Moreover, the judge also dismissed Reid’s claims of defamation.

Although Charlamagne has not spoken out directly, his lawyer has stated, “[Reid] has persisted in broadly disseminating her unsubstantiated claims, ignoring that the South Carolina Solicitor in 2018 declined her request to reopen the case due to a lack of evidence while confirming that no basis existed to bring sexual assault charges against Charlamagne.”

She concluded, “Witnesses have already attested to the fact that Charlamagne had already left the party when the alleged assault occurred.” This sexual assault lawsuit dismissal comes amid the Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs case, which consists of similar allegations. However, none of those lawsuits have been dismissed, nor have any of the charges been dropped as he sits in Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Centre.
