Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs prosecutors accuse rapper of “hijacking” case

The prosecution in Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs‘ case has responded harshly and bluntly to various motions the Bad Boy founder has filed via his legal representatives. The prosecutors insist that the emcee’s requests for gag orders, removal of anonymity and investigations into leaks, are being made in an effort to stop the swell of civil lawsuits and have his various cases conflated.

The prosecutors urged a judge to deny all of Combs’ motions, as many of them could potentially lead to evidence suppression. One of the first responses to the prosecution was that they leaked the video of Cassie to the press despite it being evidence reserved for the grand jury.

Still, the prosecutors explained that Combs’ team also made this allegation, yet they have failed to show evidence of the leak. They added that the motion filed by Combs’ attorneys of a leak was a discrete and covert attempt to have the CCTV footage deemed unusable, which would be suppression of “highly probative evidence.”

Furthermore, the prosecution alleged that the Bad Boy mogul’s team knew they didn’t leak it as it wasn’t even in their hands when it was first made public. The government prosecutors are insistent that Combs’ legal entourage just “grasped at straws.”

As reported by AllHipHop.com, the prosecution told the judge, “The defendant cannot credibly claim that he will suffer unfair surprise at trial. Rather, it is plain that the defendant’s request for a bill of particulars containing victim names is merely a vehicle to attempt to prematurely restrict the Government’s proof at trial and use these criminal proceedings to defend himself in the press against complainants in separate civil litigation.”

The declaration continued, “This improper request should be denied in its entirety, particularly here, where there are serious and ongoing concerns of victim and witness safety, tampering and intimidation.”

They concluded stating that Combs is now attempting to “hijack the criminal proceeding” to deal with his civil lawsuits and insisted that he doesn’t need a witness list six months before his trial begins.

Since his incarceration in Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Centre, the Bad Boy founder has filed several motions such as a request that he know the names of all the witnesses, that all claimants remove anonymity and once alleged the prosecution had leaked evidence to the media in order to paint him in bad light and influence the trial.

In one case a judge has ruled for anonymity to be removed. However, many lawsuits still remain anonymous, filed under the pseudonym of John Doe or Jane Doe.
