Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs’ lawyers have accused the government of leaking information
Despite Sean ‘Diddy‘ Combs’ many appeals, he is still in police custody, where he will remain until his official hearing. However, his legal team is unhappy with how the courts handle their client. More specifically, they believe that Diddy is currently the victim of a smear campaign designed to achieve a specific outcome.
Most recently, Diddy’s team drafted a memorandum alleging that the government is colluding with the media to paint him in a bad light. They believe that, by doing this, the courts are undermining the legal process and denying the rapper and music mogul a fair trial.
The memorandum assembled by Diddy’s team speaks of a “government scheme” that could result in a mistrial. As such, they have requested that the government provide remedies to undo the damage they have done thus far. It urges officials to consider the disqualification of witnesses or dismissal of all charges in his indictment.
The document highlights four separate acts that they allege are examples of government misconduct. Diddy’s legal team asserted that the video footage leaked in May would have affected the Grand Jury. Combs’ lawyers accept that neither Ventura nor a third party were likely sources of the leak and have therefore insisted that the government may have played a role in releasing the CCTV footage.
The memorandum alleges that the government knew that the Donald Trump hush money trial was going to break so the former president could spend time with his family. Therefore, May 17th was a perfect time to release the video as it was set to be “a slow news day.”
Furthermore, Combs’ team insists that the courts took no further action to investigate how and why the video was leaked, which they believe suggests that they knew it would happen and may have even planned it.
Another example of alleged government misconduct they highlight in the memorandum is Homeland Security’s raids of the defendant’s homes. Diddy’s lawyers suggest that the raids were done in broad daylight on purpose to exacerbate media exposure and question why helicopters and media cameras would have been present if they hadn’t been briefed.
Combs’ lawyers point out that the government used excessive force against his children during the raids and purposefully walked them to a visible area on the property so that the incident was visually ideal for media broadcast.
This development is the latest in Combs’ federal case in which he has been charged with sex trafficking, racketeering and transporting for prostitution across state lines. On October 9th, Diddy filed a third appeal to have him released from jail before trial. No decision has yet been reached. However, he remains in federal custody, and a trial will likely occur in April or May 2025.
