Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs key to Miami is officially revoked by Mayor

While Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs is locked behind bars, various allegations have been swirling. Amid the chaos, the City of Miami Beach has decided to revoke the key to the city that was given to Combs after years of living in the region.

On November 2nd, the Mayor of Miami Beach, Steven Meiner, decided to hold a vote, which resulted in the unanimous decision to officially revoke Combs’ key. The choice was made at an in-person hearing last week, and Joe Magazine, David Suarez, Tanya Katzoff Bhatt, and Alex Fernandez made decisions. The key was given to Combs in 2015.

It was announced in early October that Miami Beach City officials were deliberating as to whether or not they were going to revoke the Bad Boy founder’s key. However, with growing backlash, it became unsustainable.

The vote was held off due to the imminent threat that was posed by Hurricane Milton, which made landfall in the Sunshine State in late October. However, as reported by hip-hop media outlet TMZ, the hurricane was merely “delaying the inevitable.”

Combs received the key during a ceremony at the Fontainebleau Hotel, where the 2015 REVOLT Music Conference was held. In June of this year, Miami Beach abolished ‘Sean Diddy Combs Day’, which the city initially announced on October 13th, 2016.

After the abolishment, city officials released a statement reading: “Upon reflection, the Mayor and City Commission have determined that recognizing October 13th, 2016, as ‘Sean Diddy Combs Day’ is no longer in harmony with the city’s values of safety, community well-being, and respect, and wish to rescind the proclamation.”

The reclaiming of the city’s key is reminiscent of what happened over the summer when the Mayor of New York, Eric Adams, revoked Combs’ key to the city. The decision was made following the 2016 CCTV footage that surfaced of Combs’ beating and physically abusing his then-girlfriend Cassie, which Adams called “deeply disturbing.”

In the letter, the New York City mayor states that he will always be on the side of domestic abuse survivors and highlights that the Key To The City can only be held by those who are outstanding citizens and law-abiding individuals who set a good example.

In an interview before the key was revoked, Adams told the press, “I think all of us were deeply disturbed by watching that chilling video of the young lady being assaulted by him. The committee and the team, we’ve never rescinded a key before, but we are now sitting down to see what the next steps forward are going to be.”
