Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs claims 50 Cent stole private footage for documentary
Sean ‘Diddy‘ Combs has claimed that 50 Cent stole unreleased footage for his new documentary, Sean Combs: The Reckoning.
The four-part series hit Netflix on December 2nd and is described as “a staggering examination of the media mogul, music legend, and convicted offender.”
However, Combs and his team have revealed they are “deeply concerned” about some of the videos included in the documentary, claiming they were stolen.
In a statement, his spokesperson, Juda Engelmayer, said, “Netflix’s so-called ‘documentary’ is a shameful hit piece. Today’s GMA teaser confirms that Netflix relied on stolen footage that was never authorised for release.”
He continued, “As Netflix and CEO Ted Sarandos know, Mr Combs has been amassing footage since he was 19 to tell his own story, in his own way. It is fundamentally unfair, and illegal, for Netflix to misappropriate that work.
The documentary includes unreleased footage of the rapper six days before he was arrested in September 2024.
Engelmayer accused Netflix of being “plainly desperate to sensationalise every minute of Mr Combs’ life, without regard for truth, in order to capitalise on a never-ending media frenzy. If Netflix cared about truth or about Mr Combs’s legal rights, it would not be ripping private footage out of context – including conversations with his lawyers that were never intended for public viewing.”
In one clip, Combs says, “We need to find someone who will work with us who has worked in the dirtiest of dirty businesses. We are losing.”
After claiming no rights were ever transferred to Netflix or anyone else, Engelmayer questioned their partnership with 50.
“It is equally staggering that Netflix handed creative control to Curtis ‘50 Cent’ Jackson – a longtime adversary with a personal vendetta who has spent too much time slandering Mr Combs,” he wrote.
