EI-P and Killer Mike, together as Run The Jewels, have found themselves working on the soundtrack for the new Aqua Teen Hunger Force film and have previewed the new theme song for the series’ latest instalment, Aqua Teen Forever: Plantasm.
Produced by the legendary Brooklyn producer EI-P, the new theme song features in the movie’s trailer, which was uploaded to YouTube yesterday evening (8th September). The upcoming film is a sequel to 2007’s Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon movie directed by Matt Maiellaro and Dave Willis.
This latest collaboration is not the only time the hip hop duo have worked alongside the movie franchise. In 2017, the pair found themselves teaming up with Adult Swim production house to assist them in designing special edition Rick and Morty merch. Furthermore, the duo’s music video for their 2018 single ‘Oh Mama’ featured all the main characters from Adult Swim’s 2007 movie Aqua Teen Hunger Force.
The same year, Run The Jewels headlined Adult Swim’s 2018 festival in LA. Two years later in 2020, the act performed their critically acclaimed project RTJ4 in full on the Adult Swim tv channel to encourage voter turnout for the US elections.
This collaboration comes off the back of Run The Jewels just finishing their North American tour alongside band Rage Against The Machine. The band’s frontman, Zack de la Rocha, even saw it fit to bring the rap duo out to perform their legendary song, ‘Close Your Eyes (And Count to Fuck)’, which Rocha features on.
Overall, Run The Jewels are doing exceptionally well this year, and it’s great to see the duo being embraced by so many people and transitioning into film, helping with this Adult swim’s latest soundtrack. You can listen to the theme song in the video below.
