R Kelly’s attorney makes claim about Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs case
The now imprisoned R Kelly had a public downfall that has many similarities to the ongoing Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs case, especially concerning allegations of sexual assault and the involvement of minors.
That said, R Kelly’s attorney Nicole Blank Becker has suggested that Combs may potentially follow the same path that the R&B singer did. However, during an interview with Fox Digital News, Becker suggested that Combs could end up sharing big names in a desperate attempt to regain his freedom.
According to the high-ranking attorney, Combs’ team will have an extremely hard time attempting to beat the allegations that have been levelled against him and revealed that, akin to R Kelly, Combs’ lawyers will most likely only see the prosecution’s evidence on the day of the trial.
In R Kelly’s case, Becker insisted that the A-list celebrities who could have testified in his defence left him for dead at the last minute to save their reputations and avoid self-incrimination, but claimed that Combs may decide to give up some of his associates in an attempt to beat the allegations.
Becker highlighted a video that Combs uploaded online before he was arrested in which he lists several high-profile names on his birthday guest list. However, she believes that these are people he end up leaning on during the trial.
Explaining the rationale behind this potential move by Combs, Becker guessed, “What that is, [Combs] is saying, ‘Listen, guys, none of y’all are calling me back, none of y’all are listening, none of y’all want to talk to me now, well guess what, I’m going down… but y’all are gonna go down with me.’”
The attorney explained that Kelly’s inner circle were made up of his lifelong “non-celebrity friends” whereas she believes that Combs only surrounded himself with the upper echelon. Therefore, she is adamant that if Combs decides to “snitch”, it could cause an earth-shattering entertainment industry scandal.
Explaining the differences in the two men’s friend groups, Becker continued, “R. Kelly kept his grassroots friends, people that had worked for him. It wasn’t celebrities, he didn’t branch out and do things because his gift, for lack of better words, was singing… P. Diddy surrounded himself always with the best of the best. The actors who are the best actors, the elite.”
She added, “I would say that it is very possible, when Diddy recognises that they have as much information as they do – all of which he is not going to even know for quite some time – he may be trying to figure out, ‘Hey, I give you this info, what’s that going to do for me?’ And I wouldn’t be surprised if those types of negotiations occur and continue.”
Combs is charged with sex trafficking and racketeering. He is set to plead not guilty, denying all accusations of wrongdoing. The Bad Boy founder’s trial is scheduled to begin in May, 2025.
