R Kelly’s lawyer hired to fight Josh Duggar’s child pornography conviction
Former reality television star Josh Duggar has hired Beau B Brindley, the lawyer representing R Kelly, to fight his child pornography conviction.
Duggar, who found fame alongside his family in 19 Kids and Counting, was convicted in 2022 for downloading and viewing images and videos depicting the sexual abuse of children.
According to KNWA FOX24, Brindley filed motions in the US District Court in Fayetteville to represent Duggar, postponing a hearing scheduled for March 4th.
US District Judge Timothy L Brooks approved both motions, allowing Brindley more time to review the case.
Duggar was sentenced to 12 years in prison, as well as 20 years of supervised release. He must also register as a sex offender and pay $50,000 in fines.
At the time of his conviction, SI New Orleans Special Agent in Charge, Dave Denton, said, “Possessing and viewing child exploitation material is not a victimless crime – every time it’s downloaded or shared, it perpetuates the trauma and re-victimises the child.”
He added, “Our special agents are deeply committed to investigating these crimes and pursuing anyone, regardless of circumstances, who preys on innocent members of our society.”
Duggar previously represented himself after the court denied requests for court-appointed counsel.
Brindley is best known as the lead attorney for R Kelly, who is serving 31 years on charges of racketeering, sexual exploitation of a child, bribery, coercion, sex trafficking, and violating the Mann Act.
His website reads, “In every case, we attack the government whenever it seeks to threaten the liberty of a client. Through careful evaluation, relentless preparation and aggressive litigation, we strive to find ways for our clients to beat the government and overcome whatever charge is brought against them.”
