Prosecutors say Detroit rapper Allstar JR is a “clear danger to public safety”

Prosecutors believe Detroit rapper Allstar JR should remain behind bars.

The 36-year-old, known for songs such as ‘Dog’ and ‘Cases Pending’, was arrested in April and charged with unlawfully possessing a firearm as a convicted felon.

Ahead of his trial, which begins on August 31st, prosecutors have claimed that he shouldn’t be released from jail as he’s a danger to the public.

According to Complex, documents filed on July 6th read, “Defendant represents a clear danger to public safety that cannot be reasonably mitigated by any condition or combination of conditions this Court can craft.”

They continued, “Because the dangers Judge Altman described still exist and no new information has been produced that was not known to the Defendant at the time of his detention hearing in Detroit, Defendant’s detention remains warranted.”

JR previously claimed that a Michigan magistrate judge’s decision to keep him behind bars was wrong.

He argued that there was “evidence and information that defence counsel understands was not presented to the Magistrate Judge in Detroit.”

Accused of shooting NBA Ben10 in Houston, the rapper was later charged with aggravated assault causing a traumatic brain or spine injury.

In court records, investigators wrote, “Based on the extent of the injuries, the prognosis for Complainant [NBA Ben10] is that he will have irreversible paralysis of his lower extremities.”

Speaking on the incident, Lieutenant R Wilkins said, “Right now, this is a shooting, we got two victims. One’s been shot multiple times in the torso, probably in his late 20s. Another one has been shot in the extremities, in the lower extremities, and also all throughout his arms and everything, several times. He’s probably in his mid-20s.”
