Playboi Carti compares himself to Lil Wayne following the success of ‘MUSIC’

Lil Wayne has been on the scene for decades and has had multiple number-one albums and, during the 2000s, was working non-stop. Whether he was releasing mixtapes, collaborative albums or solo projects. That said, it has come as a shock to many that Atlanta rapper Playboi Carti has compared himself to Weezy following the success of his latest album, MUSIC.

Playboi Carti’s album was highly anticipated and received mixed reactions after its release. Many believed that fans deserved better after such a gruelling wait, while others thought it was fantastic. Regardless of people’s responses to the project, the body of work topped the Billboard 200 and multiple charts worldwide.

While posting an Instagram, Playboi Carti wrote, “FEELING LIKE WEEZY WE ALREADY PLATINUM N DA STREETS.” Playboi Carti highlighted how his album MUSIC (also known as I Am Music) sold 500,000 units in two weeks, and, surprisingly, the accomplishment happened on the tenth anniversary of his breakout hit, ‘Broke Boi.’

Playboi Carti has already announced the name of his next album, BABY BOI, and has given fans more bonus material to make up for the extremely long wait between 2020’s Whole Lotta Red and MUSIC by releasing a SORRY 4 DA WAIT deluxe version of his latest project.

Whether or not Carti releases anything soon, it is highly unlikely that fans will see anything in the near future, as the emcee hasn’t been on tour since 2019. He is set to co-headline this year’s Summer Smash Festival in Chicago alongside Travis Scott, Young Thug, Future and Travis Scott this June.

Lil Wayne and Playboi Carti’s connection is much more significant than people think. Lil Wayne’s son, Lil Novi, recently remixed ‘LIKE WEEZY’ himself. However, Lil Novi has made some interesting comparisons of his own.

During an interview with Flophouse Atlanta, the legend’s son was asked who he believes are the greatest rappers of all time in his opinion, to which he responded, “Obviously, my dad. But for me, I’d say like, because Carti is like the Wayne now. So yeah, Carti. If you really like, think, he’s there, he’s reached that level. He’s done crazy numbers.”
