Young Thug announces return to the stage following release from prison
Last year, on October 31st, Young Thug was finally released from police custody after two years behind bars. The Atlanta rapper who was involved in a RICO trial for alleged racketeering was the face of Georgia’s longest-running case of all time. To many, it seemed as if it was never going to end but now he’s back.
However, following his release, the ‘Best Friend’ emcee was met with a lot of love from the culture, which looked forward to new music and fresh performances. Thugger has finally given them some of what they wanted.
It has been announced that Young Thug will perform for the first time since his release this summer at the Summer Smash Festival. The Atlanta emcee will co-headline the event with Don Toliver, Yeat, and Future this year, which will undoubtedly excite fans.
The festival will take place in the Chicago area and will last three days, kicking off on June 20th and wrapping up on the 22nd. Although Young Thug hasn’t released an official studio album since his 2023 project Business Is Business, he has been in the studio, appearing on tracks such as Lil Baby’s ‘Dum, Dumb, and Dumber’.
The Summer Smash festival has released its schedule and has allocated Young Thug as the headline act for its Sunday night. Other performers on the Sunday include the likes of Lil Yachty, Quavo, Nav, G Herbo, Insane Clown Posse, Lil Tracy, Skaiwater, Bktherula and Chance the Rapper.
The Friday 20th performers have also been revealed. In addition to the headliners, Don Toliver and Yeat, Trippie Redd, Ski Mask the Slump God, NLE Choppa, Young Nudy, Nettspend, DC the Don, and Molly Santana will also perform. On Saturday the 21st, Sexyy Red, Lil Tecca, Destroy Lonely, Sahbabi, Soulja Boy, and BabyTron will take to the Summer Smash stage.
Summer Smash will take place at the SeatGeek Stadium, and tickets will be released on March 28th. Lyrical Lemonade is the host of the entire event, and in a press release, Cole Bennett revealed, “I feel lucky to be able to throw the party of the year with my best friends. May this be the best one yet. Lucky No. 7.”
General admission tickets start at $370. Last year’s festival was headlined by stars such as Travis Cott, Playboi Carti, and Chief Keef while the 2023 event saw Kid Cudi, Future, and Playboi Carti.
