Nicki Minaj sparks feud with Travis Scott once more
It seems that old habits die hard as Nick Minaj refuses to let Travis Scott’s album get to number one again like he did in 2018 with the release of Astroworld. Though Scott has always been a master of the album rollout, Minaj is adamant that he doesn’t achieve another number one this time around.
Scott has an affinity for chart-topping albums. When he released his 2015 LP, Rodeo, it climbed the charts and has since cemented itself as a classic of the genre. The same happened with his 2018 record Astroworld, which knocked Nicki Minaj’s album, Queen, off the top spot.
Now, he has put out the streaming release of Days Before Rodeo. The collection of tracks is an independently released mixtape by the rapper that has previously been unavailable and is already doing very well in the charts. Along with the album, fans can also hear live versions of the songs thanks to the album Live from Atlanta.
The situation between Minaj and Scott seems to have been recreated by the rapper and Sabrina Carpenter, who released her album Short N Sweet on the same day as Days Before Rodeo. She clearly saw the similarities, as amid the race for the top spot, she wrote, “This is for Nicki.”
The gesture didn’t go unnoticed by Minaj, who has since taken to Instagram live and urged her fans to buy the ‘Espresso’ singers record. “Shout out Sabrina Carpenter,” she said, “Shout out to all the Sabrina Carpenter fans.”
This response is a huge contrast compared to Nicki Minaj’s reaction in 2018 when Astroworld beat her album Queen to the top of the charts. During her radio show she took to insulting Travis Scott and accused him of using album bundles as a means to improve his sales.
During her infamous rant, she said, “What we’re not gonna do is have that auto-tune man selling fucking sweaters,” she continued, “Telling you he sold half a million albums because he fucking didn’t.” Minaj also criticised Spotify and Kylie Jenner, the mother of Travis Scott’s child, accusing them of using their platforms in a bid to increase the sales of Astroworld.
The current battle for number one between Carpenter and Scott is having more celebrities weigh in on it, as Kanye West, who has been on bad terms with Minaj lately, posted a version of Scott’s album on his Instagram. It will be interesting to see whether or not more artists weigh in on the situation.
