Nicki Minaj dropped by lawyer amid $10 million lawsuit

Nicki Minaj has been dropped by her lawyer over an alleged breakdown of communications.

The Queens rapper is currently facing a $10 million defamation lawsuit from a former fan, but her attorney is attempting to distance himself from her.

According to TMZ, her lawyer, Matthew Abbott, filed court documents on February 26th, asking to withdraw from her suit against Tameer Peak.

Peak previously sued Nicki in August 2024 and September 2025 with allegations of slander and falsely accusing him of criminal conduct.

Abbott, who works for the management company Nicki hired, filed a letter to the court requesting an extension to find her a permanent attorney. This came after her former lawyer, Judd Burnstein, suddenly withdrew from representing her.

Nicki allegedly hasn’t been in contact with Abbott for months, causing difficulty with his work. He claims that his company attempted to contact Nicki and her accountants many times via email and text, but has been met with radio silence.

A judge set a deadline for Nicki to respond to Abbott’s request to remove himself from the case, but a judge has yet to rule on the motion.

Nicki has aligned with Donald Trump in recent months, appearing at various public events alongside the president.

Speaking on her support, she told the Kate Miller Pod, “When I saw how he was being treated, over and over and over, I just couldn’t handle it. I felt that a lot of that bullying and the smear campaigns and all of the lying, I felt that that had been done to me for so many years.”

She added, “I was watching it in real time happen to someone else, and I didn’t think he deserved it.”
