Nicki Minaj explains why she started supporting Donald Trump
Nicki Minaj has revealed what led her to throw her support behind President Donald Trump.
The Queens rapper has been extremely vocal in her backing of Trump in recent months, both online and in public appearances alongside the US president.
During her appearance on the Katie Miller Pod this week, Minaj shared the real reason behind her Trump support.
She stated that it was the “bullying” of Trump, rather than his policies, that made her step into politics.
“When I saw how he was being treated, over and over and over, I just couldn’t handle it,” she said. “I felt that a lot of that bullying and the smear campaigns and all of the lying, I felt that that had been done to me for so many years. And I was watching it in real time happen to someone else, and I didn’t think he deserved it.”
Speaking more about turning her attention to Trump, she said, “During the last [presidential] campaign … I saw something, and I texted someone I knew right away, and I said, ‘This is a mistake.’ And I also said, ‘All of this is making me want to get into politics.’”
She added, “And then there was something that happened a few months ago that, if I wasn’t going to do it before.”
Minaj refused to offer specifics. “I don’t want to talk about it,” she said. “I will say, sometimes people can push you so much, that they push you all the way into your next calling. That’s what happened with me.”
The rapper held hands with Trump at the Trump Accounts Summit in Washington DC last week, declaring, “I am probably the president’s number one fan, and that’s not going to change.”
