New York City mayor Zohran Mamdani picks between Nicki Minaj and Cardi B

New York City mayor Zohran Mamdani has revealed who he prefers between Nicki Minaj and Cardi B.

Mamdani was sworn into office in January and has made known his love of hip-hop music over the years.

During a recent interview with Sidetalk NYC, he was asked to pick his favourite in the Nicki and Cardi debate.

“Cardi B,” he said. “What media training do I need? We’re already teaming up with Cardi B to put out the word about universal childcare… Cardi B is gonna be judging the jingle contest to get the word out about that childcare.”

He continued, “So, it’s no contest. Also, when you look back, and you think about who she had on her music years ago, J Balvin, Bad Bunny, way before a lot of people were onto them.”

Earlier this year, Mamdani revealed his five favourite rappers of all time. “I gotta put in Nas, as someone who used to represent Queensbridge houses,” he said. “Largest public housing development in North America.”

He continued, “I also have to say… when I was growing up, for me, Lupe Fiasco, one of my top rappers. I also have a real soft spot for Common.”

Mamdani closed out his top five by returning to New York rappers, naming Jay-Z and Biggie Smalls. “Also have to put in Jay-Z,” he said. “And I think in New York City, we have to put in The Notorious B.I.G.”

Earlier this year, US Vice President JD Vance sided with Nicki Minaj in the rivalry between her and Cardi B. In a post on X (formerly known as Twitter), he told his millions of followers, “Nicki > Cardi.”
