Max B released from prison after 16 years
Max B has been released from prison. The Harlem rapper became a free man on November 9th for the first time in 16 years.
The cult figure (real name Charley Wingate) was put behind bars in 2009 after being sentenced to 75 years on conspiracy charges of armed robbery, kidnapping, aggravated assault, and felony murder.
He accepted a 20-year plea deal for aggravated manslaughter in 2016, but confirmed his scheduled prison release in September.
Longtime friend and collaborator, French Montana, took to Instagram to celebrate Max’s prison release on his 41st birthday.
“CANT MAKE THIS UP ! MY BROTHER REALLY CAME HOME ON MY B DAY !” he wrote. “HAMDULILLAH WALKED IT DOWN ! NO MORE FREE YOU.”
Montana shared the message alongside a video of them hugging for the first time since he was released from prison.
Shortly after he got out, Max teased new music coming soon. “IT’S TIME TO OPEN THE FLOOD GATES,” he said. “SEE Y’ALL IN A FEW.”
Max was located at the Northern State Prison in Newark, New Jersey. Less than two months ago, he shared a letter from the New Jersey State Parole Board that confirmed his probation terms.
“Dear Mr Wingate: Please be advised that the New Jersey State Parole Board has received the parole plan acceptance from New York,” the letter read. “You are to be released at the expiration of your maximum sentence as determined by the New Jersey Department of Corrections, to begin service of the five (5) year period of Mandatory Supervision (MSV) component of your sentence.”
The letter ended, “The Mandatory Supervision (MSV) will commence upon the date of your release and be supervised by the State of New York.”
