Man arrested for murder of Durham rapper in triple shooting

A man has been arrested over the murder of Durham rapper YBT (also known as Young Boss Tevo).

The 23-year-old musician (real name Tevin Burney) was one of two people killed in a triple shooting that took place on March 13th.

Now, the Durham Police Department have revealed that 26-year-old D’Monte Kinney was taken into custody on June 4th after identifying him as a suspect.

According to CBS17, Kinney is accused of conspiring to commit the shooting with Xavier Hodges, who is currently in jail on unrelated charges.

Charges include two counts of first-degree murder, two counts of attempted first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, and discharging a weapon into an occupied motor vehicle in operation.

Kinney is being held without bond and was scheduled to appear in Durham County court on June 8th.

Three people were shot inside a car in the 3500 block of North Roxboro Street shortly before midnight, while one other person was unharmed.

YBT lost his life alongside Jarrett Godfrey, who was also pronounced dead at the scene. A woman was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The rapper was signed to Rich The Kid and is best known for songs such as ‘Spotem Gang’ and ‘Nobody Safe’. He was a member of the rap trio 83 Babies alongside Lil Tony and Setitoff83.

Just over a week after YBT was killed, fellow group member Setitoff83 was also shot in Durham in the 3700 block of Wake Forest Highway. He was taken to the hospital on May 23rd with non-life-threatening wounds.
