
North Carolina rapper shot and killed in Durham
North Carolina rapper YBT has reportedly been shot and killed.
YBT (also known as Young Boss Tevo) was one of two people who were murdered in the city of Durham on March 13th, just before midnight.
According to Raleigh News and Observer, police named 23-year-old Tevin Burney and 26-year-old Jarrett Godfrey as the two people who died.
Gunfire occurred in the 3500 block of North Roxboro, with police arriving at the scene to find two men and one woman in a car with gunshot wounds.
Both men were pronounced dead at the scene of the crime, with the woman taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening wounds. As of March 16th, no suspects have been named, and police have yet to share further details surrounding their deaths.
YBT was signed to Rich The Kid. As a solo artist, he’s best known for songs such as ‘Spotem Gang’ and ‘Nobody Safe’, which each have 336,000 and 235,000 views on YouTube.
He was also a member of the rap trio 83 Babies alongside Lil Tony and Set It Off. Their biggest song, ‘No Cap‘ featuring Rich The Kid, has over 39 million streams on Spotify.
83 Babies released their self-titled album in 2018 and contributed heavily to their label’s Rich Forever 4 compilation in 2019.
Fans took to the comments of YBT’s YouTube videos to pay tribute. One person wrote, “Damn RIP you was one of the best NC rappers been a fan for years.”
Others wrote, “Rest up this been on replay for a year now. Favourite underground from NC,” and “I discovered him last week. I remember hearing his No Cap song with the 83 Babies.”
