Luigi Mangione reveals he only listens to Lil Durk in prison

Luigi Mangione, the man accused of killing UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, has been behind bars since December 2024. A handwritten letter went viral this week, revealing Lil Durk has been on his prison playlist.

27-year-old Mangione is currently located at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, having been charged with second-degree murder.

In a letter to one of his supporters, dated to June 3rd, he opened up about listening to Taylor Swift and Charli XCX before an inmate put him onto Durk.

“Last week, I downloaded a bunch of Taylor Swift and Charli XCX onto my tablet,” he wrote in the letter obtained by Us Weekly. “I’ve never really listened to either of them, but some phony list of my favorite music circulated on social media, [REDACTED]. Rather than being a buzzkill and set the record straight, I figured I’d see what all the hype was about.”

He continued, “So I’m walking laps on the top tier of my unit listening to ‘Cardigan’ by Taylor Swift when one of the other inmates, ‘King,’ calls me over to see what I’m listening to. He scolds me for a while, then replaces all my music. Now I listen to ‘Lil Durk.'”

Mangione ended his letter by revealing he’s “grateful” for Durk’s 2013 song ‘Dis Ain’t What U Want’. The Paris Beuller-produced track appears on the rapper’s Signed to the Streets mixtape.

In the lyrics, he raps, “In my own city, they hate on me, put weight on me/ Fuck TMZ, fuck breaking news and ABC/ I can’t do no shows ’cause I terrify my city/ They say I terrify my city.”

The music video for ‘Dis Ain’t What U Want’ has over 58 million YouTube views and a further 13 million streams on Spotify.

Mangione is famously in the same prison as Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs, who was recently sentenced to 50 months in prison on transportation to engage in prostitution charges.
